During 2 days of intense debates, more than 30 delegates from civil society organisations, think tanks and research centres came together to share their vision for a more democratic, equitable and peaceful Europe.

During 2 days of intense debates and exchanges in Gandia, home of our member organisation Nexe, more than 30 delegates from civil society organisations, think tanks and research centres came together to share their vision for a more democratic, equitable and peaceful Europe.

The #Coppieters26 General Assembly elected a new Bureau, Antonia Luciani, from our Corsican member Arritti, will lead the Foundation with the support of  Xabier Macias and the rest of the Bureau. Claire Gago, Tom Cobbaert, and Peggy Eriksson  were elected Bureau members for the first time. With this changes the Bureau reinforces gender equality, with perfect parity, and geographical balance,  with representatives coming from the Åland Islands and Occitania for the first time.

In the sidelines of the conferenfe we used a mix of participatory and forma decision making to set priorities, workplan and inform the content of ongoing research.

The members of our Advisory Scientific Council led a workshop on policies to reinforce cultural rights, economic rights and collective rights to dispose of sovereignty over resources, civil and participation rights to improve the quality of multi level systsems of governance and democratic institutions.

We approved budget and a working plan with three strategic priority areas:

  • Ethical Artificial Intelligence. With a focus on (1) public policies that encourages an Artificial Intelligence that acknowledges cultural and linguistic diversity (2) effect of artificial intelligence in representation and development of democracy and electoral processes, societies and local communities and, vulnerable groups.
  • Economic governance and subsidiary principle. Looking into (1)  what resources, financing and economic governance guarantees autonomy for regions with legislative powers to design and implement public policies and (2) the current review of the Multi annual financial framework of the EU.
  • Peace promotion and an equitable international system. Focusing on (1) peace promotion and conflict resolution (2) the principle of self-determination and democracy as a tool for conflict prevention (3) promotion of a multilateral international system based on rules and justice.

On the sidelines of the assembly, our President Antonia Luciani took part on a debate with the president of the EFA group in the European parliament and MEP, Diana Riba, EFA party, Lorena Lopez de Lacalle, and EFAys president, Maylis Roßberg. She highlighted the role of Coppieters foundation to generate new ideas and policies to generate diversity and democratic engagement in Europe.

To conclude, she addressed the broader public in an closing statement to explain several key areas for the work of the foundation: From climate to gender to regional development and social justice: “Together, we will keep advocating for policies to promote a fairer and more inclusive world” she concluded.
